It’s late. She’s at a hot club, jockeying for a square inch of mirror in the ladies room to touch up her lip gloss, but there’s no mirror to spare. What’s a girl to do? She could attempt a blind application without a mirror, but that could lead to messy smudges and pink teeth. Luckily, there’s Lip Lights, an ingenious new lip gloss from ModelCo, Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia, that’s housed in a package with a built in mirror and lights.

ModelCo is known for creating “quick fix beauty tricks” and when company founder and CEO, Shelley Barret decided to expand her company’s lip product offerings, she wanted to be give customers both a quality gloss and the luxury of little extras. “Every woman applies lip gloss at various times in the day and night, so I decided to add in lights and a mirror so you could ‘gloss on the go,’ no matter where you are!” said Barret.

With LED lights concealed in the cap that automatically activate when opened, lips are illuminated for a precision, no-mess application. A side panel allows the consumer to “gloss on the go.”

Barret was unwilling to reveal who supplied the unique package, however she did say that the package was custom built for ModelCo and was six months in the making. ModelCo custom tooled the packaging for Lip Lights and the product’s specific bottle and lid is unique to the brand. “As the lights are one of the most important features in this package, a great deal of testing was done to achieve the optimum position and strength of lights within the cap,” she said. “The lights are designed in such a way that they light up the exact area where the gloss will be applied. The light is very direct and shines with just the right amount of light to accommodate the length of the lip gloss handle.”

The light is automatic and is activated by a spring/pin combination within the cap. “Each time the cap is released from the bottle the lights come on,” she said. “The bottle works as the on/off button for the lights. Once the cap if fully tightened the lights go off and when the cap is loosened the lights automatically come on.”
 
The estimated lifespan of the LED lights is 56 hours. Lip Lights’ auto on/off light feature is also a helpful tool for locating items inside a dark handbag.

Lip Lights are available in five long-lasting, high-shine shades: Crystal Dawn, Pink Sea Shell, Sienna Sunset, Coral and Indian Summer—each bearing a retail price of $25 USD.
